Australia Australia is both a country and a continent . It is the sixth largest country in the world. Surrounded by water, Australia is too big to be called an island. So geographers call it a continent. It is also a British style parliamentary democracy.
Important people… Captain James Cook discovered Australia in 1770 and claimed it for Great Britain.
Important places… Capital- Canberra Major Cities- Sydney & Melbourne
Physical Features… Australia is well know for its beautiful Great Barrier Reef and its Great Artesian Basin.
Natural Resources… Australia has many natural resources including: coal, oil, natural gas, iron ore, zinc, bauxite, gold, silver, opals, diamonds, and pearls.
People and Jobs… There are many different types of jobs in Australia including: mining, ranching, farming, and manufacturing. (Worlds top producer in wool)
New Zealand New Zealand lies in the pacific ocean about 1200 miles southeast of its nearest neighbor, Australia. In contrast to Australia’s flat dry land, New Zealand is mountainous and very green. Its climate is mild and wet.
