US Customs, Symbols and Traditions Christmas is a Christian festival when the birth of Jesus, whom Christians believe to be the Son of God is celebrated. December is an exciting month for many children around the world, as Christmas Day falls on the 25th of this month. Christian communities around the world celebrate Christmas in different ways.
US Customs, Symbols and Traditions Christmas traditions of the United States have come from blending the traditions and customs from many nations. Christmas carols can be about anything having to do with the holiday like the birth of Christ, Santa or even building a snowman. • The tunes or music to some Christmas Carols come from all over the world. • Silent Night was written in Austria. US Customs, Symbols and Traditions Santa Claus, or St. Nick. in a red suit originate in Scandinavia. He was a religious man, really St. Nicholas His sleigh drawn by reindeer began in Switzerland. We, in turn, have fattened up the jolly old man in the red suit and blended all the traditions until he comes down the chimney on Christmas Eve, leaves gifts and stockings filled with treats and departs in a sleigh drawn by eight tiny reindeer
Decorating for Christmas in the U.S. Most of the Christmas home decorations we see in the Christmas stores have evolved from many different cultures. Christmas trees are usually the focal point in the American home. Decking the halls and home with wreaths, garlands and outdoor Holiday Decorations add additional beauty. In America, the tradition of hanging a wreath on the front door is a welcome gesture of friendship Through out the cold winter days of December, there are colorful light displays around every corner that bring the holiday spirit to everyone.
