  1. Political Text Messages Political robocalls are automated or pre-recorded phone calls made by political campaigns. They are often used to target large groups of voters with a campaign message. Robocalls are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and there are laws in place that govern how they can be used. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) prohibits the use of robocalls to solicit customers for goods or services, and the FCC has issued rules that prohibit the use of robocalls to make unsolicited sales calls. However, there is an exemption for political speech, which means that political campaigns are allowed to make robocalls to voters. There are some restrictions on this, though. For example, robocalls cannot be made to emergency lines, such as 911, and they must include a way for the recipient to opt out of future calls. Despite these regulations, there have been complaints about political robocalls being intrusive and annoying. 2. Ringless Voicemail Drops There are a few different types of robocalls, and each type has its own legal status. The legality of robocalls generally falls into two categories: telemarketing calls and informational calls. Telemarketing calls are defined as any call made for the purpose of selling a product or service. These types of robocalls are regulated by the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), which prohibits companies from making unsolicited sales calls to consumers without their consent. The TCPA also requires companies to give consumers the option to opt-out of receiving future telemarketing calls. Informational robocalls are defined as any call that does not involve an attempt to sell a product or service. These types of robocalls are not subject to the same regulations as telemarketing calls, but there are still some restrictions in place. For example, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) prohibits informational robocalls that are made using an automated system unless the recipient has given their prior express consent to receive them. There are several pros and cons to robocalls. On the plus side, robocalls can be a very effective way to reach voters. They can be customized to target specific demographics, and they can be personalized with a recorded message from the candidate. On the downside, robocalls can be perceived as intrusive and annoying. Many people do not appreciate receiving unsolicited calls, especially during dinner or late at night. Additionally, if not done properly, robocalls can come across as robotic and impersonal. Lastly, there is always the possibility that your message will get caught in a spam filter or blocked by caller ID services.
