Seven tools for spiritual learning • In healthcare many different methods are used to teach the skills and art of each discipline • Traditionally formal lectures, personal study, tutorials and practical experience are used alongside apprenticeship learning • The Values in Healthcare approach involves small group learning with experiential exercises and activities • The tools provide the means by which participants engage with inner exploration and apply their insights to a wide range of situations and problems. This is to explore the essential connection between people’s humanity and their experience of living and working
Meditation Visualisation Reflection Appreciation Listening Creativity Playfulness
Thought exchange -from positivity module 1.Write down a negative thought, about yourself, others or a situation that you want to throw away. (2 minutes) 2. Fold the paper, marking it with your symbol or sign so that you can quickly identify it again. Throw it into the middle of the room. If you feel like it, sigh with relief, shake your hands or feet, jump around. (2 minutes) 3. Pick up from the floor one of the discarded pieces of paper (not your own). Write down a positive affirmation on the bottom of the card to counteract the negative thought. Return this paper to the centre of the room. 4. Pick up your own original piece of paper, read the affirmation and absorb it.

Listening • Listening in a peaceful, compassionate way • Deep listening is about giving full attention, focusing on what the person is saying with an open heart and without judgement. • Not commenting and asking questions only to clarify. • e.g. Why are you drawn to do this training? Listen for 3 mins each, feedback what your partner said….. • Share what values you see in your partner’s story…..
