The Status of ABA in NL • Hardworking professionals and parents of children with autism, but… • Eclectic use of early behavioural ABA-based interventions • Lack of professional academic training and ABA consultancy opportunities • Lack of funding despite the conclusion by Ministry of health (Gezondheidsraad, 2009) about its effectiveness and need for evidence-based practice
Compared to many other countries in Europe, we are very behind
The STAMPPP Project • Innovative multimedia programme called Simple Steps • First developed in N. Ireland by PEAT (Parents' Education as Autism Therapists ) and behaviour analysts from the University of Ulster • Parental testimonies, animations, demonstrations, and textural material to teach ABA principles • Maximises learning opportunities for children with autism • Enables parents to become proficient in delivering home programs for their children • Facilitates the coordination of child learning opportunities at home and school • Original project: example of excellence by the EC (best practice in Inclusion)
The STAMPPP Project • Leonardo (part of the European Commission's • Lifelong Learning Programme) funded the original • project • updating the original Simple Steps • German, Norwegian, Spanish • And also funded the current project • Swedisch, Icelandic, Italian, and Dutch
