  7. Risks to people unfamiliar with the building

  8. CREATE A SAFE AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT

  9. Restrict access to the main body of the church only • Consider the light levels • Consider trip hazards and remove or highlight • Provide instructions for lighting or automate • Display postcode

  10. Lone Workers • Trust your instincts ! We still retain the warning senses our ancestors relied on for their survival. Listen to them and act accordingly • If you are concerned take immediate action – if you are wrong, it won’t matter

Plan your escape route • Use a personal alarm to shock and momentarily confuse • Move quickly and assertively • Keep your phone & car keys easily accessible (on your person) – set the car to only open the driver door and always park the car facing the direction you want to travel • Always report any incidents to relevant people e.g. Colleagues, Police etc.

  12. Stewards • Avoid being distracted • Work as a team • Discuss possible scenarios before they happen • Share experiences

  15. Move valuable items to a secure area • Chain or fix items down • Use secure cabinets • Alarms, pressure pads, CCTV • Photographic displays • Remove keys • Security marking

  18. Reducing risk of arson • Remove matches • Remove Petrol 3. Waste bins moved away from buildings • Votive Stand management • Regular visit your church during the day
