Our interests in COGAIN field - Usability study of gaze interaction systems incl. Development of methodology for usability analysis that can be used for both researchers and practitioners - Application of the methodologies to users in daily life Users’ behaviour analysis under non-controlled condition Usability analysis with potential users, such as hospitalized ALS patients
Outcome from COGAINing in ’06~’07 1. Practical contributions related to development gaze-related metrics, learning processes of gaze interaction, etc. • Developing GazeTalk for Japanese users • Introducing state-of-the-art gaze interface technologies to Japanese potential users, especially ALS patients Demonstrated/presented at an ALS domestic conference in Saitama, Japan, and the ALS Centre (having more than 50 ALS patients hospitalised). 2. Academic contributions 4 journal papers submitted, 4 conference papers presented All activities have been performed in collaboration mainly with ITU, and so on.
Current research topics Usability analysis of GazeTal based on observation data obtained from people with ALS in real-life condition (plan in 2007) Observation of ALS patients’ behaviour during gaze interaction Long-term video recording of users’ behaviour Comparison of behaviour between people with/without disability Needs specific to ALS patients in real-life Performance evaluation by use of gaze metrics obtained in real-life condition Development of remote usability evaluation technique Implications for the design of gaze interaction system for ALS patients in real-life
Some notation regarding our competitiveness Our research topics have been related to: • Human factors / Educational psychology based on various approaches of task analysis, eye tracking analysis, cognitive modeling, psychological/emotional factors analysis, etc. • Various application domains, such as gaze interaction, patient safety, transportation, e-learning, advertising, etc. For future collaboration: • Any collaborative research related to our research topics is welcome! • In the collaboration, we can exchange/share our specialties as well as European/Japanese perspectives. • No fund is necessary to be paid
