  1. Tech Yes | Week 1 9th Grade

What is TechYES? • In the future, you’ll need to use and understand different kinds of technology for work and school -- going beyond just texting and adding hashtags to your latest selfie • TechYES is an opportunity for you to learn, explore, build, communicate, and design with technology • The goal is for you to build your skills with technology • You’ll be completing a college/career project this year in Advisory and a science project in MedSci 9 • STLs (Student Tech Leaders) are available to help you

  3. Project Introduction • Over the next 10 weeks you will be creating a digital project about your college/career path

  4. Your Job: promote a certain job or career path using social media

  5. What would you like to be? • You must • choose and research a career or career field you might be interested in pursuing • create one major advertising tool (60-90 sec youtube commercial, digital poster or flyer) to promote your career or job field • create one social media tool (e.g. Instagram, Vine, Facebook, Twitter) to help recruit new employees for your chosen job or job field

  6. What you get out of the project • a realistic view of what you have do now to get the future you want • more involvement in planning your own future • an understanding of how your current choices and life situations affect you later • an opportunity to be creative and learn through social media • a chance to use technology in new ways

  7. When will I work on this? • Advisory MONDAY and FRIDAY • if you are late or absent, you are still responsible for deadlines • you may continue to work on this project before or after school (work documents will be available online)

  8. Major Deadlines (due by 5pm) • Record these in your agenda! • Friday, Week 1 (1/31) – project brainstorm due • Friday, Week 2 (2/7) – project plan due in TechYES site • Friday, Week 4 (2/21) – project organizer due to STL • Friday, Week 6 (3/7) – complete draft due • Friday, Week 8 (3/21) – final draft due

Today – Monday [15 min] • Begin brainstorming what you might want your project to be • In a new GoogleDoc, answer the following questions in complete sentences: • What career are you interested in researching? • Where can you find information about that career? • Which medium (YouTube, poster, Twitter, etc) would you want to use to do this project? Why did you choose that medium? • What do you think you will need help with? • Naming Protocol: Last Name, First Name Brainstorm • ex: Wolf, Joe Brainstorm • Due Friday

  10. Today – Monday [10 min] • Introducing your STL • Creating a shared folder in Google Drive • Name your folder: Last name, First Name TechYES • ex: Wolf, Joe TechYES • Share with: STL (+ Advisory teacher?) • Add your brainstorming document to this shared folder

  11. Today – Friday [20 min] • Registering for the TechYES site • hsahs.techyes.org • bookmark this site. we will use it often.

  12. Today – Friday • Additional time? Finish answering your brainstorm questions
