Preparation and Completion of tasks • Ensure that all required equipment is with you before you start • Put on all required PPE prior to commencement of tasks • At the beginning of each shift, all staff should wash their hands • All cuts and abrasion should be covered with water proof dressings • Ensure all required equipment is with you, if necessary use a trolley • Report faulty or damaged equipment to your supervisor • Ask your supervisor which power points are safe to use • Ensure all required signs are placed around area of work, prior to work starting • Ensure a full understanding of chemicals to be used (COSHH) • Ensure all equipment is stored correctly. • All equipment and machines are to be cleaned after use • All dirty mop heads and rags placed in laundry • All chemicals to be stored correctly ( if not labelled they are not to be used, report to supervisor) • Ensure store room is clean and tidy at all times 12

Blood and Bodily Fluid Spills 002 • Operating Procedure: • Cover Spill with absorbent powder from body spill kit • Once spill is absorbed sweep up and place into plastic isolation bag and dispose of into appropriate bin. • Area to be mopped as per Safe Work Procedures on Wet Mopping. SWMS 050. • Ensure that all powder from spill kit is clean. • Solution must not be allowed to become too dirty. • Dispose of used solution in cleaner sink, • Clean up and rinse thoroughly • All loose mop strands or fringes removed and disposed off • All mop heads to be removed and disposed of in a rubbish bin

Carpet Spotting 009 • Operating Procedure: • Get a trolley and transport all equipment and materials to the area to be cleaned • Spray the carpet spotter solution into the stain to soften it. Keep a safe distance between 30 to 50 cm between yourself and the spray chemical solution • Allow for the carpet spotter solution a few minutes to commence working, then scrub the area with a damp sponge, followed by a clean rag to dry the area. • If the stain is harder than expected, spray the carpet spotter into the stain once again from a shorter distance • If the carpet area to be spotted is large, then use electric carpet machine. 17

Cleaning of Fire Stairs, Ramps and Walkways 014 • Inspect the area to be cleaned and remove any large litter or rubbish using the dustpan, brush and garbage bag • Starting at the top of the stairwell, using the dust pan and brush sweep each step in descending order • Be aware of your surroundings at all times • Mop area only if needed following Wet Mopping Safe Work Procedures • When mopping stairs start from top of stairs and work down • Using the sponge cloth and detergent/disinfectant solution, wipe down the handrails, door handles and fittings to remove dust and unwanted stains • Please be aware of your surroundings and please mind the steps • Now check the stairwell, ramp or passageway for any litter or dirt that may still be left 21

Mopping and Detailing 017/050 • Operating Procedures: • Warning signs to be displayed • Detergent solution to be prepared, as per instructions, in the wringer bucket • If necessary use a trolley to transfer equipment from one area to another • Ensure all signs are placed around area to be worked on, prior to work starting • Ensure a full understanding of chemicals to be used—read instruction on bottle of detergent or COSHH • Half fill buckets with required detergent • Start with clean mop head • Wet doodle bug and clean flood edge whilst maintaining comfortable position • Wipe over wet flood edges with damp mop • Mop up all spills from floor • Water/Solution must be emptied into approved drain as instructed • Buckets to be rinsed and all loose mop strands or fringes removed • Buckets to be stored upside down in cleaners room • All mop heads to be removed and autoclaved after every use

Dust Cleaning 018 • Operating Procedure: • Use a microfibre duster , and if one is not available wrap a yellow micro fibre dusting cloth, around the feather or wool duster • Start dusting from highest point working down to floor level • Gently wipe the duster over surfaces • Dust areas by hand that are only within safe reach • Dust low areas with a short handled mop or similar by keeping your back upright as possible and bending your knees • After dusting the area, inspect your work and dust any areas that you may have missed • Shake or vacuum duster clean • If using the woollen or microfibre flicks, place duster in laundry to be washed 23

Dust Control Mopping 019 • Operating Procedure: • Display Safety Signs • Check to make sure all equipment is safe to use and report any broken equipment to line manager • Place the electrostatic mop on the floor and only push forward • Do not lift the mop off the floor until work is finished, because the dust will be left on the floor • When turning, turn mop on half circle and continue pushing mop forward • When finished, hold mop over rubbish bin and shake gently to remove loose dust and litter • The fringe on the dust control mop will require occasional vacuuming to remove excess dust • When the fringe becomes soiled, remove and wash with a neutral detergent in cold water, rinse and hang to dry—do not machine wash or dry • Avoid wetting an electrostatic mop

Toilet Cleaning 045 • Operating Procedure: • Mop Wringer Buckets – Check that it is correctly colour coded • A toilet mop bucket is Red. • Check that the castors are not broken or jammed as damaged equipment can cause unnecessary problems. • Check your mop handle – Your mop handle should preferably be Aluminium with a Red Base. • If there is any problems with your equipment, contact your supervisor • Secure the entry door to the toilet, open with a wedge to give you ventilation whilst you are working. If applicable open any available window. • Place a Safety/Warning sign outside the door. • Before you commence work, have a visible check of the area to be cleaned. Wearing your gloves, look for Body Fluids. Body fluids can be Blood, Urine, Faeces, Spittle, and Vomit etc. You must treat any body fluid as possibly being infected and the guidelines and procedures will be attached to this Safe Work Procedure 41
Toilet Cleaning 045 • Check - All Crevices • Look behind the toilet pans and S-Bends • Check all Toilet dispensers, and inside the toilet rolls • Look inside the mouth of Hand Driers • Check underneath the hand basins and the U-Bends • Although you have done a check for Needles/Syringes, Body Fluids - STILL BE WARY • Ensure that correct posture is adopted during all Manual Handling activities, i.e. Bend your knees and keep your back straight • Flush the toilet bowls to remove any debris • Squeeze toilet bowl cleaner under the rim and around the inside of the bowl • Allow it time to work • Scrub above and below the water line and under the rim with a toilet brush. • Clean the top and bottom of the seat with detergent, paying special attention to the hinges of the seat. Wipe it dry with a dry cloth and disinfectant it. • Damp wipe the outside of the toilet bowl and the area around the flush button. Pay special attention to the floor tiles around the base of the toilet and behind it. Buff with a dry cloth to remove any residue chemical on the outside of the bowl, and flush the toilet to remove any chemical left inside the bowl. 42
Toilet Cleaning 045 • Rinse your wet wiping cloth in detergent solution after cleaning each toilet. • Dust high surfaces to remove dust and cobwebs • Sweep the floor and remove the litter • Empty rubbish bins and replace liners • Flush the urinal to remove any debris • Wash with detergent and long handled brush, if appropriate size, use a doodlebug and white pad. Pay attention to behind steps and corners • Flush the urinal to remove all chemical residue • Do not use acid based disinfectants on stainless steel urinals • If there is a bad urine odour (Uric Acid) that is hard and yellow, look behind the urinal step, on the grill and in corners. Use your scraper to scrape away the body fluid and scrub with acid based toilet bowl cleaner. Flush well to remove any chemical residue. • Wash with detergent. Remove soap, scum and soil around and under taps and other fixtures to clean behind the taps 43
Toilet Cleaning 045 • Rinse with water and buff with a dry cloth • Pay attention to the underneath of the sink – Plumbing fixtures, soap dispensers, hand driers, surrounding tiles and ledges • Spray with glass cleaner • Wipe with lint free cloth paying attention to the corners • Spot clean as required using a neutral detergent with either a doodle bug and white pad or by hand with a sponge • Buff the same areas using a dry cloth • If appropriate – Wipe all window sills and remove any dust • Wipe door handles, toilet flushing mechanisms and all plumbing or other fittings with a disinfectant solution • Replenish toilet rolls paper towels etc. and wipe the dispensers. – report any broken dispensers to line manager • Mop floors with a neutral detergent using the wet mop procedure. Ensure that the floor is left clean, dry and free from any watermarks. Pay attention to the corners, the bottom of the wall tiles around partition brackets and around the toilet bowls • Finally, wash and dry your hands with detergent and water • CLEAN AND SANITIZE ALL YOUR EQUIPMENT BEFORE STORING IT AWAY 44

Glass Cleaning Below 2 Metres 024 • Operating Procedure: • Place protective covers on floors in carpeted areas • Clear cobwebs with cobweb brush • Remove excess dirt by hosing if needed (if cleaning external windows) • Use a window scraper on glass surfaces to remove tape and other materials • Apply washing solution to cloth – do not apply too much, dampen cloth only • Wash windows with cleaning solution using an applicator and an extension pole where suitable by using horizontal strokes working from the top to the bottom • Wipe glass with a clean, dry cloth making sure no streaks or marks are left • Wipe edge of squeegee blade with a clean cloth after each stroke • Dry accessible edges and window frames with absorbent cloth • Mop up any spillages • Avoid prolonged work above shoulder height ensure that you move arms up and down • Wash and dry equipment 29

Seat Cleaning 204 • Operating Procedure: • Do not over fill bucket with water. Half way is expectable. • Ensure that you have all personal protective equipment on • Dilute the chemical in water as per label recommendation • Put your cloth into bucket with solution, rinse it very well, wipe the seat and all bars attached to it. Repeat if necessary. • Use your dry cloth to wipe any residues • TAKE EXTRA CARE WHILE GOING UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS WITH THE BUCKET • Ensure the water from the bucket is emptied regularly • If cloths become too dirty, then ensure to replace them • At the end of the task, ensure buckets are emptied of dirty water, cloths are either take to be washed or thrown away
Safe Use of Chemicals 036 • Operating Procedure: • Keep COSHH’s near areas where substances are used (must be under 5 years old) • Ensure there is no eating, drinking or smoking in areas where substances are used • Spray or Squirt Appropriate Chemical onto required surface and using the correct Cloth or sponge clean the surface as per Manufacturers Instructions. • Spray or Squirt the appropriate chemical onto a Rag or Sponge. • Wipe the Surface as per the Manufacturers Instructions. • Wipe the Surface with a Dry Cloth to ensure that no excess residual chemical is left behind. • Ensure contents of any unlabelled containers found are labelled appropriately or discarded in the approved drain if applicable • Never mix chemicals and always ensure they are stored in the correctly labelled container. • All chemicals are to be labelled, if not this needs to be reported to a supervisor or manager. • Return all equipment & machinery in clean & safe condition to cleaner’s room. 33

Collecting Rubbish from 240L and Small Office Bins 034 • Operation Procedure: • The collection and disposal of rubbish should be considered as 3 separate hazards. • Infection Risk • Accident Risk • Manual Handling Risk • Each should be considered separately but dealt with in conjunction with each other. • At the beginning of each shift, all staff should wash their hands to both clean them and identify any cuts or breaks in the skin. • Cuts or abrasions should be covered with waterproof dressings, which are found in the First Aid Box. • With your feet flat on the floor and keeping your back straight and using both hands with leather gloves on, carefully lift the liner out in one action and place it into the waste disposal container. • We are all of different sizes and strength levels, if you have any difficulty doing this task, report it immediately to your Supervisor. • Empty bins regularly to minimise the weight. As a guide bins should never be allowed to go over 75% full. • If you do find a full or heavy bin, do not attempt to empty it - do not leave it for someone else, call for assistance and ask for help. 31
Collecting Rubbish from 240L and Small Office Bins 034 • When moving a bag or bin around take extreme care. Wear gloves and use only your hands. • Do not try to use any other part of your body to move a bag or bin around. You cannot see what is behind the bin, therefore move the bin slowly and carefully. • If you find a leaking bin, do not empty it; call for assistance for someone to bring a mop, bucket and wet floor signs and to assist you to empty the bin • Mop up any spillages and wait for it to dry before leaving. • Report any sharp edges, loose fittings etc. to your Supervisor, who will report it to the relevant management immediately. • Any torn bin liner, do not attempt to empty alone, call for assistance and pick up any fallen rubbish using a long handle dustpan and broom. • Never pick up piles of swept rubbish from the floor by hand • Always use your dustpan and brush • Place the box on the floor and empty the contents using your extension fingers (Nifty Nabs) to place the rubbish into the wheelie Bin. • Break down the empty box - never throw out a full box as some one else might use to hide improper waste. • Your wheelie bin is used to transfer waste through a number of areas within the Venue. • Finally wash your hands thoroughly. 32

Rubbish Collection Using A Nifty Nabber 038 • Check that your Nifty Nabber is working properly and safely • Always check that suction cups are in good condition before use • Make sure you have a supply of bin liners and/or a wheelie bin with you • Do not attempt to pick up heavy items, such as an empty wine bottle with your Nifty Nabber. You will need to pick heavy items up by hand • Do not attempt to pick up very small items, such as cigarette butts, using your Nifty Nabber as this causes undue strain on your hand/grip. Small items have to be raked and picked up by hand. • Place rubbish in your bin liner and/or wheelie bin • Do not allow your bin liner to get over full or too heavy. Dispose of rubbish regularly • Report any damages to your supervisor • Always leave equipment storage area neat and tidy 35

Seating Bowl Waste Removal 212 • Operating Procedure: • If required ensure all PPE is on, i.e. Gloves, High Visibility, Hard Hat, and Safety Glasses • Display Safety Sign • To sweep the surface, open the dustpan and sweep debris on the floor with the broom towards the dustpan • Extra care is to be taken when working in row A due to low rail height • Once pan is full, empty into a garbage bag ensuring you are wearing your PPE gloves • Replace the bag in the aisle ensuring it is not on the steps causing a trip hazard • Hold broom over waste bin and clean with banister brush (use mask and gloves • Inspect all equipment to ensure it is safe to use. If anything is damaged put aisle, place an out of order sign on the equipment and report to your line manager
Electrical Safety • Always • Inspect the electrical item for safety before you start – check that cords and cables are not frayed or damaged. • Read the manufacturer’s instructions before using electrical equipment for the first time. • Only operate electrical equipment that has a current inspection tag and is RCD protected • If you find a piece of equipment to be faulty or defective notify your supervisor/manager immediately and attach an ‘Out of Service’ tag. If safe to do so isolate and remove equipment from power outlet • Never • Use faulty or defective electrical equipment. • Allow electrical cords to become wet. • Try to fix faulty electrical equipment 10
