What is a Stator? • The Stator of a generator is the stationary portion of power generating half of the generator
Key Terms and Ideas • Magnetic Induction: • Magnetic induction is the phenomenon that occurs when a conducting material such as copper or other wires pass through a magnetic field that that particular wire will gain a positive or negative charge based on direction • Example of Magnetic Induction
AC vs DC • AC or Alternating Current is current whos charge alternates from positive to negative in a sin pattern. This is what is used in homes and for most commercial applications • DC or Direct Current is when a current is only in a single polarity.

Stator for a DC Generator • Very similar to a AC generator with one exception the addition of the Commuter • Commuter is used to artificially “reset” the current so there is only a positive or negative current
