Disneyland Railroad Infamy! A math task worth doing
Trains • The Disneyland Railroad uses beautiful trains that are 5:8 replicas of real trains. • Most of them were hand built in the 1950’s.
Infamy! • An over enthusiastic tourist has broken into Disneyland and stolen a part of the E.P. Ripley, the oldest and most valuable of the Disney trains. • They have taken the light off of the front. • It is a rectangle with a pyramid on top.
What to do? • A new one must be built. • The Imagineers have measured the box on the original full sized train. • It measured thusly.
Task remember, it needs to be 5:8 scale • How wide should the new box be? • How big should the rectangles that make up the sides be? • How much metal will be required to build the new box?
