The name “Xue Xue” was selected to reflect the ancient Chinese educational philosophy outlined in the chapter of “Notes on Learning” in the Book of Rites: • “Food, though delicious, if not eaten, its taste remains unknown; • Wisdom, though present, if not learned, its good remains unknown. • Therefore, learn, then one knows one’s limit; teach, then one knows one’s boundary; • Knowing one’s limit makes him humble; knowing one’s boundary stimulates him to excel. • That is why teaching and learning complement each other. • This is also the reason why Yueming Chapter in Shangshu says • ‘ To teach (Xue) is to learn (Xue) the other half of knowledge.’”

Introduction • The Xue Xue Foundation was established in August 2007 with personal funds by Mr. P. S. Lin of Taiwan Glass Corporation and his wife, Lilin Hsu, to nurture talents for Taiwan’s cultural and creative industries. • The Xue Xue Foundation believes that rich cultural learning and creative thinking are the basic skills with which future talents must be equipped, and the source of culture and creativity come from different experiences in life that stimulate the five senses. Through working with charitable organizations around Taiwan, it is our goal to afford underprivileged children and students the opportunity to take part in classes on culture and creativity, so as to put them on equal footing with children and students from more privileged backgrounds.
Scholarship Programs • “Seeds of Aesthetic” Scholarship Program Xue Xue works with social welfare and charity groups to raise funds for the “Seeds of Aesthetic” scholarship program, providing free courses in creativity and aesthetics for children from underprivileged families. • “Seeds of Creativity” Scholarship Program The “Seeds of Creativity” Scholarship Program is jointly fundraised by the Xue Xue Foundation and institutions for higher learning. The scholarship enables college students from disadvantaged families to take classes at the Xue Xue Institute for free. The goal is to enhance their creativity and build connections in the industry for their future careers.
