  1. MOORE’S MESSAGE February 2019 THANK YOU! Our annual Festival of Nations was a huge success! It truly is one of our favorite days of the school year. We love providing an event where we can celebrate our diversity! The students began the day parading through the school looking at student artwork and learning about the various countries the artwork represented. In the afternoon, classes visited booths from different countries. They listened to presentations, observed artifacts, and even got to taste food!  A BIG thank you to our ELL teachers Amy Gordon and Ashley Fern who organized the day. Our festival would not be possible without our wonderful Moore parents.  Thank you to all who volunteered!   We appreciate you! Moore Elementary 2018-19 YEARBOOKS Do you want a keepsake of your child’s school year? We have extended our Moore Elementary yearbook sale to February 4th. Do you ever find yourself thinking, “Why does this kid think it’s okay to treat me like this?” Disrespectful behavior (eye-rolling, arguing, defiance, lying, etc.) is often a form of limit testing, which is a child’s way of asking this important question: “Do you love me enough to provide the caring boundaries required to keep me safe from myself?” When limits over respect are inconsistent or weak, disrespectful behavior increases. The child’s self-concept suffers. Limits are most effectively provided when we describe what we are willing to do or allow, rather than trying to tell others how they should behave. Describing our own actions provides an enforceable limit. Dictating the actions of another does not. The ability to say “no” to peers starts with experiencing “no” from one’s parents. We can be assured that doing so provides the type of limits and security our children need. • Where Did My $$$ Go? • MES is so grateful for our Fill the Nest donations! 3. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help earn money for our school. Twice a year we submit all our Box Tops and receive a check! To help, look for pink Box Tops on products, clip them, send them to school with your teacher’s name. A complete list of products can be found on the Box Tops website: www.BTFE.com. The Spring submission date is March 1st • Notes from Nurse Sanders • We’ve certainly had our fair share of sickness here at MES over the last few months! Let’s all work together to stop the spread of germs that can make you and others sick! • Influenza (flu) and other serious respiratory illnesses like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), whooping cough, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) are spread by cough, sneezing, or unclean hands. To help stop the spread of germs, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put your used tissue in the waste basket. • If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub. The N.O.O.K. (Needs Of Our Kids) is a FSSD clothing closet, created to provide new clothing to students in crisis through school nurses and counselors. Back in the Fall, the district collected socks and underwear for our NOOK program.  We are excited to announce that for the second year in a row Moore Elementary will be presented with the Golden Sock Award as the school collecting the most items!  Dr. Snowden will present the award during our Eagle Jump Force assembly on Feb. 15 at 9:00. SAVE THE DATE April 1st-4th Our Spring Book Fair is a Buy One, Get One (BOGO), so mark your calendars! More Notes from Nurse Sanders! If your child is not feeling well, has had a fever over 100°, or has vomited within the last 24 hours, please keep them home to help control the spread of illness! We’ve also completed most of our vision and hearing screenings of those students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grades. If concerns were found, you will be notified for follow-up treatment.
