  1. Taking care of the skin is very essential, especially as the summers are setting in with full force. When the sun strikes, even the best of skins tend to start getting damaged. This makes it even more important to take care of your skin during the summers. One very essential element that you need to consider while thinking about skin care is your skin tone. Deeper skin tones require special attention as they have specific needs compared to lighter skin tones. After all, it is your skin that depicts your overall health. For those with ageing skin, more care and concern is required, as ageing skin brings with it fine lines and wrinkles. Then, there could be skin pigmentation issues, wherein the skin may have attained freckles, dark spots, dark patches, acne marks, melasma, and many other such pigmentation issues over time. The reason why these pigmentation issues arise is that the colour generating element in the skin, melanin, increases significantly in amount, thus darkening the skin tone. This problem increases during the summers because the sun is in full force. The UV rays of the sun boost up the levels of producing melanin within the body, which is why the skin starts appearing darker during summers. This is why it is suggested that you avoid overexposure to the sun if you are suffering from any kinds of skin and pigmentation issues. In addition to the above, darker skin tones are more likely to experience additional problems like uneven skin tone, stubborn marks, ingrown hair, and much more. Understanding the various problems that darker skin tone people experience, we have listed below the most common problems faced by such people, and how to deal with them.

  2. Sun damage As mentioned above, the sun is one of the major causes of skin pigmentation. Constant exposure to the sun leads to invisible inflammation, and lots of ageing side-effects. And, if the inflammation is chronic, it may also lead to skin cancer! Thus, you are always advised to use a good sunscreen before leaving for the outdoors during the day. Dehydration The skin becomes dehydrated when the upper layer lacks water. Using harsh soaps can only aggravate the condition as they strip the skin’s barrier of moisture and natural oils. You should thus avoid using such soaps, and switch to gentle cleansers instead. Avoid over- exfoliation, and use rich moisturizers with hydrating ingredients in them. Oiliness Excess oil production is another skin problem. If you have oily skin, you are suggested to wash your face with soap-free products regularly to avoid over-cleansing and stripping your skin. Proper cleansers are helpful after which you can follow with a gentle non- stripping toner and water-based moisturizer to rebalance your natural moisture barrier. Discolouration Age spots and dark patches are other problems experienced by people with dark skin, which gives them an uneven complexion. To avoid this, people must use a broad-spectrum sunscreen and skin-refining ingredients. Adding non-irritating alpha or beta hydroxyl acids (AHA,BHA) to the daily regimen can improve and even out the skin tone. Brightening serums can fade blemishes and discolouration. Dark spots Dark spots can be seen after an inflammatory lesion from acne or bug bites. It is almost impossible to avoid them, but it won’t darken up by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen. When the above problems are very basic for your skin, you can use the suggested remedies to resolve them. You can also include Vitamin C, AHA, BHA, antioxidants, and ceramides into your skincare regimens to improve the texture of your skin, even out complexion, and encourage cell growth and regeneration. However, these remedies will only work if your skin is damaged up to a certain extent; after which professional help is the only solution. To treat major skin pigmentation problems, you will need to opt for the treatment
