  2. 2015 STEWARDSHIP Our 2015 focus is on SPIRITUALITY

  3. Spirituality Orthodox Spirituality is taught and exemplified through the lives of the Fathers, Mothers and Saints of all ages. There we find the living and concrete examples of what Spirituality is. St. John Climacus – The Ladder of Divine Ascent 30 Steps to reach Heaven St. Gregory Palamas – Hesychism Theosis as a way to become like God

  4. THEOSIS Archimandrite Justin Popovic For to be a member of the Church means to become incarnated with the God-man, to share His body, to become an organic part of His divine-human body. In other words, to become divine-human in the entire reality of one’s human personality

Spirituality Orthodox Spirituality is… • Seeking the honor of God • Taking up your cross and following Jesus • Looking at everything from God’s point of view and not public opinion • Making decisions based on the Heavenly and not the earthly • Living, praying and worshipping as a member of the Body of Christ

  6. STEWARDSHIP Stewardship is… • An equal giving of our Time, Talents and Treasures • Time – limited to 24 hours each day • Talents – the unique characteristics that God has blessed you with • Treasures – giving of your self, your belongings or your financial resources

  7. STEWARDSHIP MUST BE • Spiritually based • A balance of Time, Talents and Treasures • From the heart • Must be done positively • A focus as it is how you will be judged by God

SECOND-NO GRAVEN IMAGES Respect for the Holy Eucharist St. John Chrysostom… I observe many partaking of Christ’s Body lightly and yet it is not the Epiphany or Lent that makes it a fit time for approaching but it is the sincerity and purity of the soul. For as often as you do this, you proclaim the Lord’s death.

  14. THIRD-DO NOT USE THE LORD’S NAME IN VAIN Profanity Respect for the Clergy Use of God’s name Focus on eliminating profanity from your daily life

  15. FOURTH-HONOR THE SABBATH AND KEEP IT HOLY Do not work on Sunday Unwholesome clothing at Church Keeping the fasts Try not watching TV, working or completing household tasks on Sundays –focus on the family

  16. FIFTH-HONOR THY MOTHER & FATHER Parental respect Neglect Love and support of your spouse Good example for your children

FIFTH-HONOR THY MOTHER & FATHER Parental respect John 19:26-27 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[a] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

  18. FIFTH-HONOR THY MOTHER & FATHER Parental respect Neglect Love and support of your spouse Good example for your children Share stories with your children so they value your ancestors

  19. SIXTH-DO NOT KILL General health/poor habits Anger Cruelty Harboring evil thoughts Forgiveness You can also kill the body by practicing the passions Forgive everyone and do not harbor resentment

  20. SEVEN-DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY Impure thoughts Immoral books or TV Obscenity Laziness or wasted time Not trusting Remove the obscenity from your (and your children’s) life

  21. EIGHTH-DO NOT STEAL Cheating Payment of debt Live within your means Charitable causes Pay all of your debts without complaining

  22. NINTH-DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS Lies Careless statements Betrayal Failure to see God in others Remove the log from your own eye before you point out the speck of dust in your neighbor’s
