Background • The plane crashed in San Francisco. • Boeing 777-200ER • From South Korea to San Francisco • 307 people total aboard the plane. 2 dead at the crash scene a, 3rd in the hospital days later, 181 injured, 12 critically. • First crash of a Boeing 777 that resulted in fatalities since its service entry in 1995.

Problem • Plan slammed into the seawall on final approach. • Boeing 777 is different than most planes because of the auto-throttle. • Once the pilot turned the auto-throttle to idle in order to fix altitude problem it remained off. • NTSB stated that they should have aborted landing and done another go around • The co-piloted said he wanted to but thought it should have been the authority of the more experienced pilot • Pilot Lee “attended the lectures, asked questions specifically about this feature of the automation, and discussed the 'anomaly' with his fellow trainee captains after class.“ • Video: http://www.ibtimes.com/flight-214-animation-forensic-animator-recreates-asiana-airlines-crash-vs-normal-landing-video
