Origin Of Korfball Korfball originated from Dutch school teacher Nico Broekhusen in 1902. Nico thought of the sport that both boys and girls could play together on equal terms. He chose to create a sport of his own that would encourage both teamwork and co-operation. Korfball just simply means basketball in Dutch. ‘Korf’ in Dutch means ‘basket’, but it was not translated to not get confused with basketball. Korfball is basically like putting netball and basketball together.
Development Of Korfball Korfball was officially founded in 1933 and started to be known by people recently. However, it was first demonstrated in Holland in 1902, just a few years later James Naismith invented basketball in USA. It is now played in America, throughout Europe, South East Asia and Australasia. Korfball has been a demonstration sport at the Olympics, but has not been yet a fully sport.
eQuipments For Korfball only two things are required. One is the ball which is usually harder than a soccer ball but softer than basketball. And the last equipment that is required for the game is the korf. The korfs are taller than the basketball hoops. The good thing about Korfball is that not a lot of equipments are required. www.croydonkorfball.com www.mikasasports.com.au
How to play Korfball Korfball is played by two teams of 8(4 men and 4 women) on a rectangular pitch 40m by 20m. Similar to basketball, action consists almost entirely passing the ball by hand from person to person. Since an attacker is not allowed to shoot if the defender is within arms’ lengths and nearer to the post chances of scoring can be rare. Any player in the attacking zone may score. Also, just like basketball kicking, punching, and running with the ball is forbidden in the game. Players may only mark the same player of the same gender. Apart from playing within one half of the field, there are no set positions and players need to have all round skills since whenever two goals are scored in the match, players change zones. http://www.korfball.co.uk/whatiskorfball/whatiskorfball.html http://www.korfball.co.uk/whatiskorfball/whatiskorfball.html
