What is Machiavelli’s definition of a civil principality? And what does he say a person needs in order to attain leadership of one? • It is either created by the people or the nobles accordingly as one of the other has the opportunity. For the nobles, seeing they cannot withstand the people begin to cry the population as one of themselves, and they make him a prince, to attain a leadership they need popular vote.
Why is it more difficult for a prince created by nobles to rule than for a prince created by the people? • A prince created by nobles has many people around him that consider him his equal and the noble then must manage their likings and rule which is very hard for them. People who make their way to prince are alone and do not have equals to please so their job is much more simple.
What are the different types of nobles? How should they be viewed and treated? • The two types of nobles, the ones who bind themselves entirely to your fortune, and the ones who do not. Those who do should be honored and those who do not should be looked at as selfish.
What is Machiavelli’s response to the saying “he who builds on the people, builds on the mud.” Machiavelli’s response to the saying is that this is a true statement. Machiavelli believed that how the people felt about you as a leader dictated how you should treat the people. If the people like you, then you treat them with kindness. But if the people do not like you, then you must win their approval in order to be a successful leader.
Do you agree or disagree with Machiavelli’s reasoning? Explain. I agree with Machiavelli’s reasoning because being a ruler and a leader it is very important to have support of the people and nobility in order to control the dominion effectively.
