  1. Demonstrating Newton’s Second Law in a cool way By: Vandana Bathla

  2. Background Information • I will first explain Newton’s Second law to the students. • I know that a student listening to the Newton’s Law for the first time wont understand about it. So for that I have a cool activity that will enhance their interest and make them understand Newton’s Second Law properly.

  3. Teacher Demonstration • I will first show the students this interesting video to create their interest in the topic. • The video is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgH-4P73e0A • Then I will further explain the video to the students and the concept of balanced and an unbalanced force.

  4. Cool Activity • To further enhance students’ understanding towards Newton’s Second Law I will put them into groups. • I will ask one person from each group to stand still and then in order of turn the other group members will carefully push him/her. This will make them understand the fact that different students apply different forces depending on their masses.

  5. Cool Activity contd.... • Since the group member who remains standing still is the same, the mass being pushed will be constant. • When the person is being pushed, he/she will be dragged forward according to the force applied which explains the concept that if more force is applied, there will be more acceleration.

  6. Cool Activity contd.... • If less force is applied the person will travel less distance comparatively and hence there would be less acceleration. • After that I will show them this cool video which further goes insight with Newton’s Second and it is the same activity they did.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC3t5KF_DLE
