The Future • Ticketing and Information System (TIS2014) –project • renewal of the travel card system • implementation of real-time information for passengers, contractors and operators -> contract 5/2012-> in use by the end of 2015 • Renewal of the fare and ticketing system at the same time / soon after -> 2016? • Both projects started in 2006
Vision: TIS2014 and the new fare system The new ticketing, passenger information and fare system is • suitable for the expanding Helsinki region • well functioning, clear and easy for the customer to use • give real-time information before and during the journey • the pricing is considered fair and • the system can easily be expanded geographically during its lifespan.
Current Travel Card System + TIS 1st phase Idesco -> Desfire Single ticket Tourist Contact Card -> Mifare Ultralight SMS ticket Card reader
TIS2014 - What is so special? • The first metropolitan area renewing an existing contactless ticketing system • Real-time transaction and communication system both for ticketing and information • Fully integrated ticketing and information system based on SOA architecture model • Independent service components • Readiness for contactless EMV and NFC-solutions
The Circle Zone Model • Zone boundaries are based on the distance from the centre of the Metropolitan area (the centre of Helsinki) • The new zones will not necessarily follow any municipal boundaries • There will be no internal tickets, only circle zone tickets • The customer will always buy two circle zones in the inner circle zones area (A, B and C) • The cheapest tickets will often cover a larger area than the present system • The circle model is easier to expand, if/when the HSL-area expands and/or the municipal structure changes
The fare system 2016- next steps • Defining the principles of ticket prices and long term tariff policy • Pricing of the zones and ticket types (season ticket, value ticket, single ticket) • Reduced price ticket groups, free travel -> The effects on PT use, municipal economy etc -> the opinions/statements of the municipalities • HSL Board’s decision on the principles in December 2013 • How will the customer see the new system? Planning has started with TIS2014
