  2. What is Health Physics ? • Doctors rely on a lot of equipment to help them diagnose & cure illness. • Understanding how this equipment works & developing new equipment is the job of a Health Physicist

  3. What will we study ? • Health Physics looks at the following areas: • Thermometers (temperature) • Using sound (stethoscopes / ultrasound) • Eyesight (defects & correction) • Invisible radiations (infra-red, ultra violet, x-rays) • Radioactivity

  4. Thermometers • Why is it important to measure a patients temperature ? • What devices can we use to measure body temperature ?

  5. Using Sound • Why do Doctors want to listen to the inside of your body ? • What is Ultrasound & why do Doctors use it ?

  6. Eyesight • How does the human eye work ? • How can we correct certain eye defects ?

  7. Invisible Radiations • How can we use invisible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum for diagnosing & curing patients ?

  8. Radioactivity • What is radioactivity & how can it help detect or cure illness ?
