  2. Today’s topics • The value of C-ID • Update on the recent DIG Activities • Present status of finalized discipline descriptors (sample timeline) • The AO role: on your campus & submitting CoRs

  3. The Value of C-ID • Offers students the opportunity to “swirl” and “move” more easily (similar to how CAN did)- even more important today • Identifies the essential common components of a course (positive outcomes: accreditation efforts, inform curriculum reviews and updates, assist new faculty) • Descriptors are detailed enough to serve as the basis for articulation

Update on DIGs (Discipline Input Groups) Activities: Oct. 7 & 8 • 11 Disciplines reviewed by Faculty Groups • Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Math, Criminal Justice, Physics, Art History, Geology, History, Kinesiology/PE, Theatre • Discipline faculty (over 200 total) from CCC, CSU and UC • Articulation Officers present at discipline sessions

  5. Future Discipline Input Groups (DIGs): Spring 2011 • Accounting • Business • Economics • Computer Systems • Information Systems • Political Science • Music • English • Math (working with Business faculty)

  6. DIGs (Discipline Input Groups) • Review existing draft descriptors and integrate feedback • Review and modify, as needed, existing TCSU descriptors • Identify – and possibly develop – other needed descriptors • Discuss transfer degrees

  7. C-ID Finalized Descriptors • Agriculture (135) • Communication Studies (8) • Sociology (8) November 19 workshop scheduled to train faculty to review CoRs

  8. C-ID Process • Develop descriptors • Review draft descriptors • www.c-id.net • DIG • Finalize descriptors • Seek articulation with universities • Seek CoR submissions from CCCs

C-ID Process: Sociology as an Example (timeline) • FDRG originally met October 2008 (3 CCC faculty; 2 CSU faculty; 1 AO); 4 descriptors developed for courses not included in LDTP • 4 descriptors plus 4 LDTP descriptors posted on C-ID website to be reviewed by Sociology faculty (2 CSU; 10 CCC) • September 2010 FDRG convened by conference call to consider reviewers’ comments on Sociology posted descriptors AND further develop LDTP descriptors including more detailed course work done through faculty work in IMPAC

Sociology Timeline (cont) • 4 descriptors developed by FDRG moved to finalized descriptor list •  4 further developed LDTP course descriptors posted on C-ID website for review • FDRG met via conference call October 2010 to consider reviewer’s comments on 4 further enhanced LTDP descriptors • October 2010 – all 8 Sociology descriptors posted to the finalized descriptor list and become available for CoR review. • November 2010 – FDRG meets to begin CoR reviews • * FDRG members appointed by their respective Academic/Faculty Senates

The AO’s Important Role • Communicate, educate and ENCOURAGE your faculty to participate in all parts of the process • ENCOURAGE faculty to go on the C-ID website www.c-id.net and sign up for the Discipline List-serve for their discipline area • Work with your curriculum committee to encourage involvement/participation in C-ID * Independent Cs and Us consider acceptance of C-ID numbers (as many did with CAN)

  12. When descriptors are finalized ENCOURAGE faculty to submit their courses • When the CCC faculty agree to accept C-ID’d courses in lieu of their native course, AO submits CoR to the C-ID website • If a course had a TCSU number and the descriptor is now in C-ID, there is no need to submit CoR if the CCC AO indicates that a C-ID designation is desired

  13. CSU, UC and Independent faculty agree to articulate • AO communicates articulation information to C-ID

  14. C-ID depends on AOs to: • ENCOURAGE faculty to participate • Attend Spring DIGs • Keep up on C-ID activities and finalized descriptors (newsletter, website) • Thanks for all you do!
