  8. Guiding question: How are congruent figures identified?

  9. Congruent Triangles Now that we know how to classify triangles and we know some properties about the angles of a triangle, we will spend some time investigating some congruency properties of triangles. Before we do that… recall: Congruent figures have the same size and shape. In other words, if figures are congruent they can fit exactly on top of each other.

  10. Congruent Figures The figures below are congruent. If you flip one, it will fit exactly on top of the other.

  11. Congruent Figures Congruent polygons have congruent corresponding sides and angles.

  12. Congruent Figures The figures below are congruent. List the congruent corresponding sides. When we name congruent figures, we label congruent figures in order of their corresponding sides. XZDA is congruent to… YBTC

  13. Congruent Figures If two polygons are congruent, then their corresponding parts are congruent. This is a justification for congruency of corresponding parts of congruent figures. For triangles, we say corresponding parts of congruent triangles are congruent, CPCTC.

  15. Congruent Figures The fins of the Space Shuttle suggest congruent pentagons. Find the measure of angle B. TB pg 254 Guided Practice 2

  16. Congruent Triangles Are the two triangles congruent?

  17. Congruent Triangles Third angles Theorem: If two angles of one triangle are congruent to two angles of another triangle, then the third angles are congruent. TB pg 255 Guided practice 3
