  1. Energy Models Transferring & Transforming Energy

  2. Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy • Quick Review • Potential Energy = Stored Energy • Kinetic Energy = Happening Energy (energy of motion) • Energy can change from one form to another, HOWEVER … IT IS NEVER LOST

  3. Potential Energyto Kinetic Energy • Energy is constantly changing from potential energy to kinetic energy and back again. • Can we explain this using a model? • OF COURSE!

  4. Baseball Model • The baseball has potential energy when it is in the glove. • The potential energy is transferred to kinetic energy when the ball is released. • The kinetic energy is then transferred back to potential energy when the catcher catches the ball. • This change happens each time the ball is thrown.

  5. Now Your Turn Pendulum Model • Explain the transfer of energy in the pendulum. • Indicate where the PE (potential energy) is the greatest/least and where the KE (kinetic energy) is greatest/least.

  6. Energy Transformations • Quick review • Mrs. G. Chen – Ring a bell? • Can you list the types of energy? Mechanical Radiant (Electromagnetic) Sound Gravitational Chemical Heat (Thermal) Electric Nuclear

  7. Let’s Make a Model • Construct a model using the following materials to illustrate the transformation of energy. • Label each energy transformation
