  2. Keep an eye on your skin! The melanoma is a malignant skin tumour which can arise from an existing mole or from healthy skin. As the tumour tends to metastasize early over the lymph and blood streams, it is considered as very dangerous!

  3. Keep an eye on your skin! Statistics In recent years, the number of melanoma cases has increased dramatically. In Europe, every year about 1 million skin tumors are diagnosed. 1 out of 100 of these skin cancers is a malignant melanoma. Although melanoma is 100% curable if detected in time, many patients die from this skin cancer - often young.

  4. Keep an eye on your skin! Mole Mapping is accurate and reliable. With the aid of a video camera, the dermatologist creates a complete mole catalogue. This helps localize every single mole of your body. Moles at risk are photographed individually with a digital dermatoscope (skin microscope).

High risk group • If you answer “Yes” to any of the following questions, please have your moles checked by a dermatologist: • Do you have multiple lesions (>50)? • Are there skin cancer cases in your family? • Did you already have a melanoma? • Do you have large, congenital lesions, atypical moles or recently changed ones? • Did you suffer from severe sunburns during childhood or adolescence? • Do you belong to the white skin phototype?

If more than one of the criteria below apply, please contact your dermatologist: Asymmetry Border (irregular/blurred/jagged edges) Color variation (brown/reddish/white dots) Diameter (more than 5 millimetres) Elevation (uneven moles) Evolution (changes of the mole)

  10. Keep an eye on your skin! Watch out! • Any alteration is an alarm signal: • Changes in color (e.g. darkening, loss of color, new coloration). • Decrease or increase in size/ thickness. • Changes in the surrounding skin (e.g. redness, white spots, swelling). • Paraesthesia (eg. itchiness, sores, odd sensation). • Newly appeared moles. • Bleeding moles.
