  1. Dr Yaacob Ibrahim was a structural engineer at BylanderMeinhardt Partnership before receiving a scholarship to pursue a PhD at Stanford University (US). He then worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Cornell University (US) before returning to Singapore to join the National University of Singapore. He is currently on leave of absence from the university as an associate professor .

  2. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, 51, studied Medicine at the National University of Singapore after being awarded the President’s Scholarship in 1980. He was elected President of the NUS Students’ Union from 1981 to 1983 and Chairman from 1984 to 1985.
