Telescope Operations and Science Services • TAC met in February • Eight TAC members supported by 16 TAC readers • TAC comments made available through OPAL, and allocated dates through schedule web pages • Abstracts of scheduled proposals on ADS • Revise proposal deadline time of day from next semester? • 2011APR schedules released in early March • Release notes added for ATCA, Mopra and Parkes • New versions of ATCA, Parkes, Mopra User Guides • ATCA forum now in-house: http://atcaforum.atnf.csiro.au/ • Increased awareness of how observers access information • Trials of electronic logs underway • ATCA calibrator database being enhanced • Amplitude scale cross-checks with EVLA and Planck CSIRO. ATUC June 2011
Scientific computing and archives • Updates to CABB scheduler and caobs as new CABB capabilities delivered • CABB scheduler now able to be used without requiring an ATNF account (saves files to local disk) • Can schedule in galactic coordinates • Mosaic files now allow 2048 fields • Review of CABB data reduction options Dave McConnell presentation • World Coordinate System implementation in miriad continuing • New version of MoniCA rolled out • Parkes polarisation software being tested and refined CSIRO. ATUC June 2011
Computer Infrastructure • On-going work in upgrading servers and adding storage • Oldest storage taken out of service • Additional storage for expanded ATOA • Network switch replacements at sites • Partly in preparation for IP telephony • Problems with network links to Narrabri • Temporary fix implemented at worst affected areas • Fibre to ASKAP installed CSIRO. ATUC June 2011
Visitor Services Group • Vicki back in the Project Leader role • Visitors now emailed after their stay and asked to complete and on-line questionnaire form • VSG staff from all three sites had their annual get-together last month • Bathroom repairs in all rooms at the Marsfield lodge • Observers reminded to make their accommodation bookings at least several days before they plan to arrive! CSIRO. ATUC June 2011
Around the Observatories • Mopra • 3mm characterisation observations conducted earlier this semester • Fast-mapping observations now routine • Change of default cycle time to 2.048 sec adopted • Mopra all-sky webcam in place • Balt Indermuehle relocated to Sydney • Kate Brooks taken up a role with ASKAP • Automated scheduling trials with mock Mopra data being made CSIRO. ATUC June 2011

Around the Observatories • Parkes • Open Day October 8 & 9 (with Opera at the Dish) • Four week shutdown in March for MCP upgrade • Three week shutdown in May/June to refurbish focus cabin translator rails • Ongoing work on Parkes Control & Monitor project with possible remote observing trials later this year • Increasing RFI seen over last year: observers asked to record onset, duration and characteristics as accurately as possible CSIRO. ATUC June 2011

ASKAP + Ww First fringes at 20cm between LBA and first ASKAP antenna and Warkworth 12m in New Zealand in April/May 2010. Observations made of Cen A and PKS 1934-638. Ww has formally joined LBA for observations at 1.4, 2.3 and 8.4 GHz. (See also apod/ap110413.html)
Around the Observatories • ATCA • 20/13cm (“L/S”) receiver upgrade completed • Continuing CABB enhancements • Water Vapour Radiometers installed, algorithm development continuing • Attempts to remedy instances of erratic azimuth tracking on some antennas continuing… • First 6/3cm (“C/X”) prototype provisionally scheduled for installation later this year • Increasing instances of 16cm RFI, approaches for mitigating under consideration CSIRO. ATUC June 2011
Around the Observatories • Tidbinbilla • Improved 22 GHz system and new spectrometer and filters being tested • ATNF Vacation Student worked on on-the-fly mapping with Jimi Green and Shinji Horiuchi • LBA • LBA NAPA observations in May 2011 • Warkworth 12m (AUT) formally part of LBA • Hydrogen maser installed at ASKAP • 8.4GHz receiver demonstrated at ASKAP • eVLBI demonstrated between ASKAP & Ww CSIRO.
