Dear Resident, In this Newsletter, we hope to answer some questions you may have regarding this year’s Scarecrow Festival. We would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to several people. We would like to thank everyone who donated cakes for and/or volunteered in the Scarecrow Tea-Room. We were also very grateful to The Crown Inn for letting us turn their function room into “The Scarecrow Tea-Room” and to Dairy Crest Dairy for donating milk and cream. Thank you to all our sponsors for helping to make the festival possible. Sponsors and judges were organised by Di Everett; without her continued support the organising task would have been even more daunting! We are very grateful to Heather St. John’s Football Club for allowing us use of their facilities, and for providing a more substantial tea-room. A heartfelt thank you goes to Lynda & Stan Hodges and their helpers for the absolutely fantastic work at their garage sale. We would also like to express our gratitude to all businesses/premises who helped by selling Scarecrow Guides. The Scarecrow Fun-day was a lovely day made possible with the assistance of The Crown – thanks very much guys we hope you enjoyed it too! We would also like to thank the Pre-school and Parish Council for taking up this fundraising opportunity and participating in the Fun-day. We very much appreciate the pre & post festival volunteers who helped by delivering leaflets / forms throughout the village. Finally, thank you to everyone who participated in, or, supported the festival (either by making a scarecrow, buying a Scarecrow Guide and viewing them or attending the Fun-day); its great to see what can be achieved when a village works together. Money raisedThis year, to date, the Scarecrow festival has made a profit of £4013.62. This was achieved by the following: • DonationsAll money raised from the festival is spent on things for / within our village. From the profits of this years festival the following donations will be made: • £2000 to Heather Parish Council for storage, re-filling, re-hanging and watering of our 30 hanging baskets (for 2011) • £162 to Heather Parish Council to cover the cost of hiring the primary school for the 6 once-a- month sessions of the youth club, starting in September • £200 to Heather Primary School to help towards replacing leased equipment in the computer suite • £200 to Heather Pre-School to help towards purchasing IT equipment + an additional donation to take their income from the fun-day up to £100 • £200 to St John The Baptist Church; £180 for the Fabric Fund for the upkeep of the building (i.e. stonework, woodwork repairs etc) & £20 for 4 nights of flood lighting • £200 to our Village Hall fund + an additional donation to take income from the fun-day to £100 • The football club kindly offered a donation towards scarecrow funds from the proceeds of their tea room. The scarecrow team are aware that the football club is a registered charity and they are trying to raise funds to replace old furniture and the clubhouse wooden floor. In view of this we decided the football club should retain all of their tea-room proceeds. • With the remainder of the money the feasibility and cost of a traffic mirror at the junction of Mill Lane with Main Street and/or a swing for the Belcher Close play area are being investigated. • For the futureIf you would like to be involved with the organisation of next year’s festival or to volunteer for delivery of leaflets etc please let a team member (listed on the front page) know. If you would like to nominate a village based organisation / group that you think would be interested in participating in a fun-day as a fundraising opportunity please let us know, care of 2 Marston Way or any of the team members. Similarly, if you know of a business that would like to sponsor the festival we would be very interested to hear from you! You can also contact us via e-mail, heatherscarecrow@gmail.com we look forward to hearing from you. • Details for next years festival, as available, will be posted on village notice boards and Heather Parish Council website – http://heather.leicestershireparishcouncils.org .
