Do Now- Write 5 Lines If 95% of the world’s freshwater is found in lakes, why should we conserve water and protect this resource? Explain Your Answer.
Information • IPR grades to be entered - should occur in the next day - quiz grades will be included • Covering water and landforms Is your ID on?
Current Events: World • Monsoon flooding in Pakistan - many people killed or injured • Avalanche in Nepal - Manaslu mountain, 8th highest peak - mountaineers caught in it

Hydrologic Cycle pg. 32-33 • Review the Hydrologic Cycle on page 33. - answer the “Skillbuilder Questions” be sure to provide an explanation for your answer
T-P-S Affecting the Hydrologic Cycle Ways in which the hydrologic cycle is affected • Water must move into the soil, think about things that may break this part of the cycle: • changes in the ability of soil to soak up water through increases of impervious surfaces, like roads and buildings, and removal of forest cover; • water withdrawals or impoundments (such as through wells or dams) • filling depressional wetlands; • and altering stream flows and beds.
Ground Water • Ground Water - water trapped, held, in the pores of rocks - the amount of water changes in the pores - the top edge of this water is called the water table • Water Table - low levels = Drought - high levels = oversaturation (leads to flooding) What are the current water table levels in our area? Why?
Salt Water Lakes • Started as fresh water - outlet to the sea was blocked - man made barriers (Human Environment Interaction) - naturally formed barriers (movement) • What feature houses most of the world’s freshwater?
Access to online text • How to get to it… • Instructions located on the Wikispace
Landforms – On Line Text • Using the online text, page 34 identify the various land types - click on the “Animation Tab” - Identify in your notes the 24 Land Types, write a definition and add a “drawing” to your notes to understand the term.
TOTD: Summary Summarize the day’s lesson to your neighbor. Discuss things that were interesting, you wish to know more about, and/or the hydrologic cycle.
