4. International? Global? I am working for Global Teaching Institute of Tokyo International University. Hmm… International? Global? What is the difference between them? Japanese translation of “International” and “Global” are both “国際Kokusai”. Many Japanese do not understand (or not care) the difference between them.

International International is a view of “inter-nation” (nation = country) such as country vs country, Japan vs foreign countries etc. It usually thinks about relationship with other countries focusing on my country. What does “focusing on my country” mean? When you look at a world map in Japan, Japan is always at the center of the map. 7. International Business When we say International business, we usually mean exporting Japanese products to foreign countries. 8. Global Global is a view that the world is not a group of countries but one united community on the earth(globe = earth). Unlike International, there is no global center, or anywhere can be global central. This concept comes from the experience of seeing the earth from the space, which provided by the space development competition between the US and the Soviet Union in the 1960s.

9. Global Business When we say Global business, we think of world-wide business for one big market. The topics of global business are: • what is required at where in the world • where to design, where to make and where to sell in the world • what to be common and what to be customized on products etc. When we do Global Business, we have to follow Global standards, world-common rules. 11. Global View is required for Global Human Resource International vs Global is not a matter of which is right or wrong, nor which is good or better. However, it should be remembered that global view is required for Global Human Resources.
