  1. Unit3 Career Planning • Objectives: • Learn the new words and expressions related to career. • Get to know the step of career planning. • Know how to write application form and application letter.

Part1 Preparation Synonyms of “Job”: job – regular paid employment business – trade and the getting of money trade – an occupation, esp. one needing special skill with hands labor —work, esp. is hard or heavy occupation – a job; employment职业,固定工作,指“职业”的一般用词 e.g. -- lose one’s ~ -- What’s your father’s ~ and yours?

  3. career– a job or profession for which one is trained and which one intends to do for the whole of one’s life. (作为终身的)职业 e.g. – He made the Church his career. profession – a form of employment, esp. one that is respected, honorable, for and educated person training in some special branch of knowledge, such as law, medicine, and the Church. 职业,专业(尤指需要高等教育和特殊训练的人)(professional, amateur athlete) e.g.– He is a lawyer by ~. task – a piece of esp. difficult work

  6. Procedures and requirements • 1. Decide what kind of job you would hunt for. Reference:After-class PI+II, Ex.2 • 2. Know how to write a resume and an application letter. Some suggestions. • 3. Write your own resume and application letters to at least two companies listed in the script. Model: Ex. 6, (Real name, please) • 4. Get your resume and application letter ready for Monday class. (check and modify on Monday)

  7. Wednesday • 1. Interviewers will ask you some questions, take notes of what you do, and give a reply. • 2. The interviewers’ notes and reply will decide whether you can get a reward. For example, if you pass the interview, you will be rewarded. If no notes can tell your interview experience, you will get….

During the interview, ask questions, collect application letters and resumes, take notes, and give a reply. • 4. When it is over, sort out all the materials including the reply and then hand in.

  20. Part 4 Further Development • Interpreting ProverbsLooking for a job • Simulated Interview Step1 Work in groups to design several interview questions based on the “want ad.” prepared before. Step2 Each group elects 2 members to be simulated interviewers, the others pretend to be applicants and can choose any companies they are interested in to have an interview, and they should show their application forms to the interviews. Then the interviewers can ask questions and choose the right people for their companies.
