  6. NCSU Food Science Club • “Expand awareness of the field of food science within the university and throughout our communities” • Outreach programs • Public service • Undergraduate participation • New ideas, refresh the standards • Communication skills

  7. Why I Want to be a FSC Member? • Free Dinners! • Fun Events! • Activities, Athletics, Trip Tour, Product Development, College Bowl and more • Service and Outreach Activities! • Opportunity for Internships and Scholarships! • Points!

  8. What are “Points” Anyway? • Active members earn points! • The more active you are, the more points you earn! • Points translate to $$ in the spring! • Professional development (books, parking permits, etc)

  9. What is the IFT and IFTSA? Professional association for food scientists • Community of students studying food science and technology • Over 2300 members • 8 Areas and 55 Chapters • Area meetings in spring (University of Delaware) • Annual Meeting in Summer (New Orleans, June 11-14, 2011)

Best way to gain points • Must work 3 SHIFTS • 1 HOUR = 1 POINT • End of the year • 1 point = approx. $ 6 – 8 • Use toward professional development • Textbooks, parking permit, conferences • Dairy Bar Appreciation Dinner • Must work 4 SHIFTS • Scholarships available for Dairy Bar participants at the FSC Awards Banquet Dairy Bar Is… ONLY Fundraiser for Club Provides funds for all club activities 11 days of FUN! 3 hour shifts 6 – 9 AM Stocking (OPEN) 11 – 2 PM 2 – 5 PM 5 – 8 PM 8 – 11 PM (CLOSE)

Public Service • Thanks to all who participated in Service NC State last week • 569 pints of blood were donated • 400,000 meals were packaged for Stop Hunger Now • If you participated in the blood drive, truck unloading or food packaging event please see Ali after the meeting to sign the sign-up sheet

  45. I Want to be an Active Member!! • Attend ½ of all club meetings (~13 meetings total) 2. Serve on at least one FSC committee 3. Scoop ≥ 3 shifts at Dairy Bar

Recent Changes to the By-laws Section 3.2 Eligibility • Active Members are required to work three (3) 3-hour shifts at the CLUB annual fundraiser, Dairy Bar. • Students unableto work any Dairy Bar shifts may serve actively on a second committee and attend one (1) public service event to qualify for active membership. Students only able to work one (1) shift may serve actively on a second committee to qualify for active membership. Students only able to work two (2) shifts may attend one (1) public service event to qualify for active membership.
