Sav-O-Mat Castle Rock • Cracks in basement floor were caulked. • In April 2009, plumbing problems with septic system were fixed. Odors went away.
Sav-O-Mat Castle Rock • The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 allows EPA to address threats to “waters of the United States” • Rivers, creeks, lakes, and anything that drains to them, e.g., stormwater sewers. • EPA can lead, or can allow responsible party to do the work.
Sav-O-Mat Castle Rock • Next Steps: • Responsible party is removing free product in groundwater • RP is installing air sparging system to remediate groundwater before it reaches East Plum Creek
Sav-O-Mat Castle Rock • More next steps: • RP will determine size of groundwater plume • RP will perform tracer test on tanks and lines (“deuterated benzene”) to see if there’s an ongoing leak
