Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) • In some males the sperm count or quality is very low or sometimes even nil, therefore they would not succeed with IVF which requires normal semen parameters. To achieve fertilization the egg is injected with single sperm and this technique is called Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
When Is ICSI Treatment Used? • Couples who have had unexplained fertilization failure in a previous IVF cycle. • Low sperm count (also known as oligospermia) • Abnormally shaped sperm (also known as teratozoospermia) • Poor sperm movement (also known as asthenozoospermia)

Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) • It is a fertility treatment. • It may be done with or without fertility drugs. • The procedure itself involves transferring specially washed semen directly into the uterus via a thin catheter.
When Is IUI Treatment Used? IUI treatment may be recommended for any of the following situations: • Male infertility • Hostile cervical mucus • Unexplained infertility • If treatment with fertility drugs alone is not successful • If a sperm donor is being used • If sexual pain makes intercourse difficult/impossible

What Happens During the IUI Procedure? • During the procedure the doctor will put the semen through a special “washing” procedure. • A catheter – a small, thin tube – will be placed in the cervix. • The specially washed semen will then be transferred into the uterus via the catheter. • The catheter is then removed.
Success Rate of IUI • IUI is a process with limited success rate with maximum chances of success being in the range of 10- 15%.
