  4. 2008 Highlights Research and Evaluation • Continue to build broad evidence base to inform policy decisions • Projects completed - Barriers to help seeking - Formative investigation into links with crime - Pacific island families longitudinal study - Assessment of social impacts of gambling - PG in NZ from Experience to Effectiveness • An outcomes framework • Service evaluation

  9. 2009 Key Issues • Draft six year strategic plan 2010 to 2016 • Including a draft 2010 to 2013 service funding plan • Needs assessment update • June/July – Cab 100 process • July/August - Consultation • Sept – Analysis of submissions, recommendations to Ministers, forward doc’s to Commission • October – Commission meeting

  10. 2009 Key Issues • Building on public health prevention focus • Unknown impacts from :- • Global recession • Online gaming (international global lottery/ growing internet options) • Alignment with wider heath sector

  11. 2009 Key Issues • Audit site visits July to Sept • Competencies development both Intervention and Public Health :- • Te Uru Kahikatea – Public Health Workforce Development Plan • For intervention services a competencies development project has begun

  12. 2010 and beyond • The gap between prevalence and presentations • Workforce development • Outcomes framework measurement • Implementing the new strategy and service plan • Sustainability
