Today is the Day! • Everyone should be prepared to say paragraph 1 of The Creed! • Remember the speaking techniques we discussed last class: Eye Contact Confidence and Enthusiasm Inflection Volume Tempo
Who’s 1st? • Remember you are being graded on accuracy, speaking, and response to creed question.
Pronunciation: • The form and accent a speaker gives to the syllables of a word. • Pronunciation of many words in the English language can be tricky. • Practice saying all 5 paragraphs of The Creed (The Creed handout). Underline or note words if they are not 100% sure about the pronunciation. • Work with each other or check the dictionary to get the proper pronunciation for any words you aren’t sure of. • Make sure you notice the word agriculturistsin the1st paragraph!
Articulation • The way the tongue, teeth, palate and lips move to produce crisp, clear sounds of good speech. • Examples of poor articulation: • gonna (going to) • didja (did you) • pacific (specific) • otta (ought to) • wilya (will you) • Warshington (Washington)
Articulation Practice • Use Creed - HO4 • Practice articulation with tongue twisters. • Try each tongue twister out first slowly and then as fast as they can. • Who wants to share their ability to articulate clearly? • Draw one tongue twister out of the can.
