Agenda ISSC 2012 Committee I.1 Environment Meeting
ISSC 2012 I.1 Environment COMMITTEE MANDATE Concern for descriptions of the ocean environment, especially with respect to wave, current and wind, in deep and shallow waters, and ice, as a basis for the determination of environmental loads for structural design. Attention shall be given to statistical description of these and other related phenomena relevant to the safe design and operation of ships and offshore structures. The committee is encouraged to cooperate with the corresponding ITTC committee. Picture taken by the officer on board of the handymax bulkcarrier Selkirk Settlerin the N. Atlantic, Feb.1987.

Committee I.1 EnvironmentDocument structure • The report needs ready ca. 23 Dec. 2011 (written as a “book”) • Structure of the document • Topics
Committee I.1 EnvironmentDocument structure • Traditional topics(wind, waves (including rogue waves, tsunami) and current) • Special topics (climate change and/or variability, consequences, space statistics, tail of the wave spectrum, long waves in shallow water, data distribution/access, uncertainty) Takuji Waseda – Metocean:directional wave spectrum. New observations (satellite, ship-borne radar, buoy array, lidar etc.), new analysis methods (Bayesian, wavelet, etc.),third-generation wave models (improved NL source term), and theories. Applications: can be included as well, such as, ship stability. Of course, freak wave prediction can be a part of it. Wave-current interaction, varying wind, etc. • Design and Operating Environment (also marine growth, earthquake, uncertainty in extreme estimates, warning systems)
Committee I.1 Environment2006 & 2009 document structure • Traditional topics 1. Sources of environmental data - Wind - Waves - Current - Ice 2. Modelling of environmental phenomena Analytical, numerical and Experimental Description - Wind - Waves - Current
Committee I.1 EnvironmentAlternative document structure Traditional topics 1. Wind - data - Analytical, numerical and Experimental Description 2. Waves - data - Analytical, numerical and Experimental Description 3. Current …. 4. Ice …
