Definition & Usage • Asyndeton: consists of omitting conjunctions between words, phrases, or clauses. • Gives a concise and speedy feeling to lists, phrases and clauses • Usage: can give a spontaneous feel to a sentence, as well as a very natural feel. • Example: The moist, rich, fertile soil.

Examples • Examples: • She likes pickles, olives, raisins, dates, pretzels. • Omitting a final conjunctions give the impression that the list is not finished • They spent the day wondering, searching, thinking, understanding. • Gives a strong climactic effect, brings more emphasis than if a final conjunction was being used. • He was a winner, a hero. • Gives the impression of synonymy to the phrase, and makes the latter appear to be an afterthought or a substitute for the former.
