Poverty: -noun1) The state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor; indigence.2) deficiency of necessary or desirable ingredients, qualities, etc.: poverty of the soil. 3) scantiness; insufficiency: Their efforts to stamp out disease were hampered by a poverty of medical supplies
Poverty on a world scale has many historical causes: colonialism, slavery, war and conquest. It is well known that many nations of Europe, faced by devastating wars, like World Wars I and II, were reduced to bare poverty, where people were reduced to living on handouts and charity, barely surviving. Within decades they had brought themselves up in terms of real domestic income, to become thriving and influential modern nations of rich people.
Factors of PovertyThe factors of poverty (as a social problem) are: ignorance, disease, apathy, dishonesty and dependency, are to be seen simply as conditions. These, in turn, contribute to secondary factors such as lack of markets, poor infrastructure, poor leadership, bad governance, under-employment, lack of skills, lack of capital, and others
Facts: • 1/3 deaths every year are poverty related. • 50,000 of those deaths every are day. • Many of those that die are children, who have no protection from disease or starvation. • Illnesses like measles or pneumonia, which aren’t a big deal in the United States, cause many deaths and lead to even worse diseases like tuberculosis and malaria. • Many people cannot eat enough to survive, let alone feed their families and children. • Societies living in poverties are at a huge risk of contracting and passing on HIV and AIDS.
How To Stop Poverty • Collecting different kinds of donations for the homeless. • Ask governments to support the fight against global poverty. • Feeding the homeless and helpless. • People need to be taught new skills which will provide them with the knowledge to earn a better income.
