Wessex HIEC Development • Response to DH – ‘Breakthrough to the Future’ – accelerating innovation in health and care services • Now 40 partners and growing. Programme Director appointed May 2010 – 3 Programme Managers appointed November 2010 • Key aims: • ‘Bringing forward the future’ • Adding value to health and care businesses • Supporting a sustainable health and care economy • NHS ‘QIPP’ agenda – Quality, Innovation, Productivity, Prevention
Wessex HIEC Initial Programmes • Wessex HIEC Knowledge Programme • Building innovation knowledge base and diffusion • Community Solutions Workstream • Delivering more in the community to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions • Telehealth/care Workstream • Using new technology when it’s more cost effective and empowers patients and their carers • Public Health Workstream • Investing in prevention
Wessex HIEC Knowledge Programme • Innovation directory/ project management website /portal (ready for ‘soft’ launch) • Workshops/ ‘Show Cases’/ Road Shows • Project support programme • Asthma Inhaler Project (RIF funded) • Enhanced Recovery (RIF funding bid) • The Productive Operating Theatre (NHS I funded) • Simulation in Training (RIF funding bid) • Others in development – personalisation, Healthwatch
Community Solutions • Project Support Programme • New Neurological care pathway – Hampshire Community Healthcare • Integrated care approach – IoW • Outreach project (review) – SUHT • Key Wessex ‘focus’ workshop planned – May 2011 • New strands being incorporated from April, to build a ‘rolling’ programme of activity and dissemination
Telehealth/care • Project Support Programme: • Solent Health and LA’s – System Integration/ Information Governance, promotion of project successes • GP monitoring product development with SU/PU • IoW Urgent Care Hub procurement support • Technology supported discharge (RIF bid) • NHS Choices – local portal development • and others in progress – including SHA programme continuity • Major Wessex wide promotion event planned for Summer
Public Health/Impact Assessment • Initial Project - Alcohol Misuse Prevention • Use of screening/brief intervention therapy: • Evaluation • Development materials • Promotion and roll out • Impact Assessment • Recruiting for cost benefit assessment resources to support all programmes
Governance • Partnership Board – 40 Partners, interim terms of reference agreed • ‘Start up support’ from current Executive Group • Agreement to develop: • Formal partnership agreement and ‘flexible’ branding for partnership (informed by developments/ opportunities) • New HIEC Strategic Board with representation from key sectors • Programme delivery hosted through Southampton University
Future Possibilities • Working closely together across South Central to… • implement national development programmes/ outcomes from leading edge research • promote and support local innovation • Support commisioning; supporting cooperative approaches to service development • SC HIEC Partnerships cover all key players • Innovation/Education/Skills networks • Continuity for other SHA ‘collaborative’ functions?
