  1. Bladder Cancer: Diagnosis, Grade, & Treatments Bladder cancer develops in the tissues of the bladder, the part of the body that stores urine. The National Institutes of Health estimate that each year, the condition affects about 45,000 men and 17,000 women. The urologist can use many possible treatments to get rid of bladder cancer; surgery is one of many possible options. After treatment, bladder cancer may come back; thus, one who has bladder cancer should be cautious about going to the doctor frequently. The leading urologist in Delhi, Dr. Niren Rao of the renowned Urology Hospital in Delhi, Delhi Urology Hospital, has provided comprehensive information on bladder cancer diagnosis and treatments to spread fundamental awareness about the disease and its pertinent elements. Bladder Cancer Types Bladder cancer can be one of three types: Transitional Cells Carcinoma Among bladder cancers, transitional cell carcinoma is the most prevalent. It starts in the transitional cells that make up the bladder’s inner layer. Transitional cells shift shape without becoming harmed when tissue is stretched.

  2. Squamous Cell Carcinoma Squamous cell carcinoma is a very uncommon form of cancer. It starts when thin, flat squamous cells grow in the bladder after a protracted infection or irritation. Adenocarcinoma Adenocarcinoma cancer starts when glandular cells develop in the bladder during protracted bladder inflammation and irritation. The mucus-secreting glands in the body form glandular cells. Symptoms of Bladder Cancer •Blood in the urine, or hematuria, can make the urine appear bright red or cola-colored •Frequent urination •Unpleasant urination •Backache Diagnosis of Bladder Cancer The following tests and techniques may be used to identify bladder cancer: •Cystoscopy (examining the interior of the bladder with a scope). To perform a cystoscopy, the doctor passes a tiny, narrow tube called a cystoscope through the patient’s urethra. The doctor uses the cystoscope’s lens to see inside the urethra and bladder and check these organs for disease symptoms. •Biopsy (removing a tissue sample for analysis). The doctor may perform a cystoscopy and insert a specialised tool into the bladder to take a cell sample (biopsy) for analysis. Occasionally, this process is referred to as Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT). Bladder cancer can also be treated with TURBT. •Urine Cytology (looking at a urine sample). It is a process where a urine sample is examined under a microscope to look for cancer cells. •Imaging Tests- The doctor can evaluate the components of the urinary tract using imaging procedures like a retrograde pyelogram or a Computed Tomography (CT) urogram. A contrast dye is injected into a vein in the hand during a CT urogram, and it gradually seeps into the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. Grade of Bladder Cancer Based on how the cancer cells look under a microscope, bladder malignancies are further divided into several types.

  3. •Low-grade Bladder Cancer. These cancer cells resemble normal cells more in terms of structure and appearance (well differentiated). Compared to high-grade tumours, low-grade tumours often grow more slowly and are less likely to breach the bladder’s muscular wall. •High-grade Bladder Cancer. This form of cancer has cells that appear aberrant and have no relation to tissues that appear to be normal (poorly differentiated). A high-grade tumour has the propensity to develop more quickly and may be more likely to invade other tissues and organs, including the bladder’s muscular wall. Treatment of Bladder Cancer in Delhi Treatment options depend on the kind, grade, and stage of cancer, as well as one’s general health and treatment preferences. They are considered when determining the best course of treatment for bladder cancer. Treatment options for bladder cancer include: •Surgical removal of the cancerous cells. •Intravesical chemotherapy (chemotherapy in the bladder): It is performed to treat bladder cancers confined to the lining of the bladder but at a high risk of returning or progressing to a more advanced stage. •Systemic Chemotherapy: When surgery to remove the bladder is not an option, systemic chemotherapy may be the primary treatment to increase the patient’s chance of recovery. •Radiation Therapy: When surgery is not an option or is not wanted, radiation therapy is frequently used as the primary treatment to eradicate cancer cells. •Immunotherapy: It activates the body’s defences against cancer cells in the bladder or elsewhere in the body. •Targeted Therapy: When other therapies have failed, targeted therapy may be used to treat advanced cancer. If one is experiencing any symptoms or is ignoring bladder cancer warning signs. They must see a urologist right away to prevent life-threatening conditions.
