  3. Agriculture is more than farming • The industry is made up of people who feed & clothe the US and world.. • Over 22 million people are employed in the industry while only 2 million are farmers

  4. What is Horticulture? • The science and art of growing fruit, flowers, ornamental plants, and vegetables in small gardens • Horticulture usually refers to gardening on a smaller scale, while agriculture refers to the large-scale cultivation of crops

  5. What is a garden? A planned space, usually outdoors, set aside for planting & displaying plants and nature • Can incorporate both natural and man-made materials. • Many types based on plants & styles

  6. GARDENS • Vegetable gardens: to grow vegetables and other plants • Kitchen gardens: all-season source of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers • Victory gardens: ???

  7. What is a victory Garden? Vegetables, fruit and herb gardens planted at private residences and public parks in the US during WWI & WWII to reduce the pressure on the public food supply brought on by the war effort
