  2. Mission Statement • Return a recommendation on the following items that directly impact core technologies: • What should the Globus position be concerning WSRF spec updates, including WS-Addressing? • How hard would these be to implement? • What would be the benefit, to us for future direction, and also for our user & developer community • Same for Muse • Same for Axis • Is there an alternative container type that we should consider switching to? • What is our strategy for maintaining or approximating backward compatibility?

  3. Motivation • To a large degree, the capabilities in WS-Core determine the direction of many Globus activities. • We MUST have a set of milestones to present to the NSF to receive continued funding in 4-6 weeks. • The recommendations of this team are a vital part of this process.

  4. Considerations • Let’s try and gradually transition from maintenance toward innovation. • Minimize maintenance moving forward • Maintain thought leadership where possible • Is there something truly innovative on the horizon that could solve some of our current problems, and provide a bright future?

  5. Moving forward • Select a leader for your team. • Decide what information you need to obtain in order to make a defendable recommendation. • Consider gathering input from key people external to the team (Sam Meder?, Jarek, Keith Jackson?…) • Divide the work & conquer. • Set a meeting schedule to discuss progress. • Leader to provide regular verbal or written updates to Dan/Ian. • Defend the final recommendations during the Tuesday meeting on March 27.
