  1. Notebooking Mary Wren and Beth Thomas Great Falls Public Schools 2014 MEA Conference Explain how notebooks can help students develop inquiry skills, enhance reading, writing, and science. Provide strategies for set-up, organization, entry types/uses and assessment of notebooks. OBJECTIVES:

  2. RATIONALE FOR NOTEBOOKING • Allows students to: • Process information, learn, and think in a more engaging way • Demonstrate what they have learned and provide a better opportunity for remembering information • Develop more confidence • Self-assess and reflect on their learning

  3. RATIONALE cont…. • Notebooks also: • Enhance literacy through various forms of writing (procedural, narrative, descriptive and labeling) • Support differentiated learning • Provide a voice for students and increase achievement

  4. Research Indicates… • Notebooks lead to increased student achievement in science, reading and writing (Amaral, Garrison, and Klentschy 2002; Klentschy, and Molina-DeLaTorre 2004)
