Content & Language Objectives Content Objective: • Participants will become knowledgeable about and be ready to use the revised ELA CCSS report card for grades 4 & 5 Language Objective: • Participants will read, write and discuss as they become knowledgeable about the revised Gr. 4 & 5 ELA CCSS Report Card
Revision Process – Spring 2013 • Teams of 4th and 5th grade teachers met to review the ELA Common Core State Standards and the previously revised K-3 CCSS report cards. • New items were written to align the Grades 4 & 5 report cards to the ELA Common Core State Standards and grades K-3 report card • PAT representatives participated on each grade level team • The Report Card format and the Key for Academic Performance and the Key for Effort and Expectations remain the same.
Activity #1: Independent Reading Materials Needed: • Former Report Card & Current CCSS Report Card • Compare/Contrast Graphic Organizer Directions: (10 minutes) • Read the newly revised CCSS report card. • Compare items from old and new report cards. • Record notes about similarities and differences on Graphic Organizer
Alignment to Standards and Assessments (Handout) • This document aligns the items on the revised CCSS report card to the Common Core State Standards and district assessments • Refer to the Alignment document as your grade level team discusses the Guiding Questions on the following slide
Activity 2: Grade Level Discussion 20-30 minutes Directions: Refer to the notes on your Graphic Organizer and use the Guiding Questions below to focus your Grade Level Team discussion. Guiding Questions: What similarities and differences do you notice between the former and current report cards? How will the differences impact your classroom instruction? How have the ELA Common Core State Standards impacted how we report to parents? What additional assessments can be used to inform reporting to parents?
