  1. When using MQL, implement safety systems to prevent fires or explosions • EXPLANATION: During the machining with MQL, an explosive mixture of dust and fine particles may be produced. Because of the high process temperatures an ignition source may be present, especially under aggressive processing conditions. Enclosed workspaces that would withstand the pressure of an explosion, pressure relief flaps integrated into the working area or suitable automated fire extinguishing systems are helpful measures that should be taken into account. • CLASSIFICATION: • Topic: SAFETY • Machine Structure: SAFETY SYSTEMS • Life Cycle phase: SELECTION OF COMPONENTS • Type of machine tools: GENERAL • Material selection: - • KEYWORDS: safety systems, MQL • SOURCES: Weinert, K., Inasaki, I., Sutherland, J.W., Wakabayashi, T. “Dry machining and minimum quantity lubrication”, 2004 • LINKS: • FIGURES/GRAPHS: 060
