  3. When is Thanksgiving? • Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday every November.

  4. When is Thanksgiving? • This year, Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 27th.

  5. On Thanksgiving, we spend time with our families and remember the things that we are thankful for.

  6. History of Thanksgiving… The story of Thanksgiving starts in England.

  7. Some people disagreed with the English Church.

  8. Because they disagreed, they were persecuted (treated unfairly, not as equals).

  13. The Pilgrims arrived in America in December 1620.

  14. They landed in a place called Plymouth. Plymouth is in the state of Massachusetts.

  15. The winter was terrible.

  16. By the fall of 1621, 46 of the 102 pilgrims were dead from starvation (no food) and disease.

  18. Native Americans, also known as Indians, helped the pilgrims.

  19. The Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to farm.

  20. The harvest was very good.

  22. To celebrate the harvest, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans ate a big feast! The feast lasted 3 days!

  23. Later, the Pilgrims and Native Americans became enemies. But that is a sad story. On Thanksgiving we celebrate the time of their friendship.
