Introducing The London Institute of Banking & Finance • The London Institute of Banking and Finance (“LIBF”) was founded in 1879 as the Institute of Bankers, to serve the City of London Banking Community • It gained Royal Charter in 1987 • LIBF has a heritage of more than 135 years of delivering world-class, professional education to students in the City of London and throughout the world • LIBF is a not-for-profit educational body with charitable status, incorporated by Royal Charter • LIBF received taught degree-awarding powers (“TDAP”), the first and still the only ‘professional body’ in the UK to achieve this distinction • LIBF has been educating children and young people for over a decade
How do we contribute to student and school progress? • Lessons in Financial Education - LiFE – fully interactive independent study programme – from Foundation to Level 2 • GCSE – Award and Certificate in Financial Education • A Level – Certificate and Diploma in Financial Studies • Included in performance tables • Progress 8 • Include A* and carry maximum UCAS points • All fully funded • Endorsed as excellent use of Pupil Premium funding • Ofsted “LIBF fin cap exams bring coherence and progression” • Full support and CPD for teachers
The impact of our work in Kent • Almost 10,000 students in Kent have studied one or more of our qualifications since the academic year 2005/6 • Last year 35,000 from 600 schools studied with us, 400,000 since 2005/6 • 10% of our full time undergraduates are from Kent, • 27% of those who have graduated received a First Class Honours Degree • Many progressed from summer internships to full time positions with employers including Barclays, Bank of Cyprus, Handelsbanken, St James’s Place, HSBC and Blackrock • Many won Academic Achievement prizes each year of their studies • A large number joined school leaver programmes with organisations including The Bank of England and Barclays
A Financial Services Guild in Kent – working together as a community • Our objectives: • Connect employers, young people, schools, teachers and parents • A programme to develop • Understanding of Financial Services employers and roles in Kent • Routes in – Apprenticeship v’s University • Work experience • Soft skills – the things employers say are missing! • Mentors A collaborative approach to reducing unemployment and upskilling young people in Kent.
