You will get details of the school, department and an application form. • You will need to get it all back in time, always copy the application form! • Letter will take considerable time to do, maybe a week or two. • Get it all back in time!
Need to sort out two referees • PGCE tutor [let tutor know!] • HoD at TP school
Letter of application • Always word process it • Check it and check it again3 • Letter should be about a side and a half, no more • Don’t wander off the point!
What are schools looking for? • Qualifications? • Personal qualities • Fit into their department • Potential
Next step? • Process of reading letters, getting references can take just a few days • Be prepared to be interviewed at fairly short notice
The Interview • Along with all the other candidates, you’ll meet the headteacher, be shown round school by coordinator/deputy headteacher/2nd in Maths • Shown round department by 2nd in maths • Meet maths / school staff
The Lesson! • Common for you to teach a lesson or part of a lesson • Normally it’s a KS3 class • You’ll be told the topic days in advance, along with resources available/needed
The Formal Interview • Headteacher, HoD plus a governor • Before it starts, headteacher asks if you are still a firm candidate • Last about 20/30 minutes • Decision that afternoon/day
