Success Criteria for RBSP ► Just a beginning of the discussion ◄ Should a discussion on a “success criteria” be engaged in? Is it feasible to develop a “success criteria”? What does “success” mean? What type of mission is RBSP? Some of the science might be considered “mature” What portions, or all, of the results anticipated will be transformational? How do the five RBSP Teams view each of their anticipated results as likely being transformational? How do the five RBSP Teams view the anticipated results from the mission as a whole as likely being transformational? How does the SWG handle initial measurements/results in the context of “success” and “maturity” in some areas?
Success Criteria for RBSP ► Possible Approach(s) ◄ Define a set of studies and predictions in advance of Phase E (NOT another way of stating Mission Objectives) Predictions that can be compared to mission observations Specific to RBSP orbit, mission duration, instrument capabilities, etc. Predictions could involve specific observations that result from some solar/solar wind/magnetosphere events Predictions could involve specific mechanisms that are identified SWG could collectively define possible models to run SWG could collectively define theoretical problems to tackle, analytically and computationally ► Next Steps? ◄
